BSI BS EN 1869 2019 Fire Blanket
A fire blanket is a simple and effective fire fighting aid designed to deal with early small fires. They are usually installed in kitchens and can be used to fight fires caused by fat, oil, or grease, but they are increasingly popular in a variety of environments where small fires can occur, such as caravans, schools, commercial premises, factories, and workshops.
In addition to putting fire off the body, fire blankets can also be used to wrap around people whose clothing is on fire or to wrap around the body to act as a fire stop.
With over 100 years of experience, the British Standards Institution is recognized as the UK's national standards body. Their committees work with manufacturing and services, government, business, and consumers to promote the development of UK, European and international standards.
Fire blankets should comply with BS EN 1869:2019 and feature a BSI Kitemark. Note that some government departments, councils, and official bodies still recommend that fire blankets should comply with BS6575. However, this standard was succeeded by BS EN 1869:1997 in 2019.
